Nice Guys Finish First!

Celebrating the winning ways of Nice Guys….By Doug Rogers

Gotta’ Get This Blogging Thing Going

There’s no use putting it off. I have a message to deliver. And it’s the 21st century. My message is that Nice Guys CAN Finish First (contrary to popular and cynical beliefs). And I now realize that if I’m going to get that message out (or apparently any message out, for that matter) I’m going to have to set up a blog through a so-called “host” web site. I spoke to a very knowledgeable Internet consultant who advised me to take each of the possible host sites (i.e., WebBlogger.com, WordPress.com, GoDaddy.com) out for a test spin, and see which one works best for me. So that’s what I’m doing now. So far it feels pretty good, I guess. I mean I’m typing and the words are popping up nicely on the screen. So that’s a pretty good sign, especially for me. But beyond that, the problem is that I don’t really know what I’m supposed to be looking for. Oh well.

Anyway, at some point I’m sure I’ll be able to select a host (I do kind of like this one, for some uninformed abstract reason) to begin posting my blog – or my blogs – whichever the case may be. I hope I can figure it out soon, because I have a lot to say about the world of “Nice Guys,” and their numerous adversaries, affectionately known as “Nasty Guys” (the alliteration was too hard to resist). Defending the Nice Guy is a torch I’m happy to carry. After all, I’m one of those so-called Nice Guys myself, and none too shy about admitting it. Oh I’ve taken my fair share of grief over the years for it. And believe me, there’s nothing worse in the dog-eat-dog worlds of corporate America and Little League baseball than being labeled as “too nice.” Ouch. But I endured and stuck to my Nice Guy guns, and I was vindicated. But let me save that discussion for later.

I hope that by the time we get some real meaty, good-old-fashion bloggin’ under our belts, the world might shift its opinion a little bit more towards the ways of the Nice Guy. But I know that will take some time. And it certainly won’t happen after this first posting since my mom will be the only other person to read it. But fear ye not, Mr. Nice Guy. There is more to come on your behalf. Stay tuned.
